Are You Engaged: Everything You Need to Know About the EMSDC MBEIC
You probably know that the Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council (EMSDC) is an affiliate of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) and one of 23 regional councils across the country. We certify and connect minority-owned businesses (Asian, Black, Hispanic, and Native American) throughout Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware with member corporations to initiate growth and opportunity through Supplier Diversity channels. But do you know about our Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee, also known as the MBEIC?
What is the MBEIC?
Under the direction of the National Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (NMBEIC), each regional council has a standing committee that represents the interests of its minority business enterprises (MBEs). Known as the Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC), this dedicated group of ambassadors serves as a liaison between its corporate members and MBE community to develop new connections, strengthen relationships, and promote programs and initiatives that facilitate growth. In addition, these advocates are available to provide advice and guidance on important issues affecting minority-owned businesses.
What does it take to get involved and get engaged?
Per the MBEIC brochure, found here, the MBEIC is a committee of the EMSDC Board of Directors and is “your voice to the ear of the Board.” As a vital part of our leadership team, this committee meets quarterly and is a “driving force in assisting certified MBEs to achieve size, scale, capital, technology and profit.” Elected by EMSDC-certified MBEs, participation in the MBEIC adds value to your certification by providing an avenue to become involved in driving the activities of the Council.”
MBEIC roles and responsibilities include:
- Acting as liaisons between the minority business community and council members
- Assisting the Council with outreach efforts to minority businesses
- Identifying minority-owned businesses and encouraging their participation with EMSDC
- Advising and making recommendations to the Council on minority business priorities
- Serving on the Board of Directors as well as EMSDC committees

What is the MBEIC Mission Statement?
To be an effective voice and resource for certified MBEs in achieving business success by:
- Increasing procurement and business opportunities for certified MBEs
- Sharing knowledge, information and connections for substantial growth
- Supporting MBEs ability to compete in the open market
