National Entrepreneurship Month
Throughout November, The Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council (EMSDC) is celebrating National Entrepreneurship Month, with a particular focus on Asian, Black, Hispanic, and Native American entrepreneurs. As an affiliate of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) serving minority business enterprises in Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware, we advocate for “access to the American dream for MBEs” and “an equal shot at participating in the American experiment of free-market capitalism and entrepreneurship.” We are proud to say our numbers are strong and so is our impact, as we continue to initiate growth and opportunity through Supplier Diversity channels.
According to National Today, “Entrepreneurship is the art of designing, launching, and running a new business, keeping into account all the risks while making a profit. It can be defined in many ways, though all these definitions circle the same concept of entrepreneurship, which is the ability to turn an idea or innovation into a profitable business. It needs to be celebrated because succeeding in this arena takes dedication, hard work, and never-ending energy.” We could not agree more, and we have witnessed this incredible spirit and drive in our certified MBEs and partners.
About National Entrepreneurship Month
In 2011, President Obama proclaimed November as National Entrepreneurship Month, stating that, “Our Nation’s doers, makers, and entrepreneurs have proven time and again that, in America, it takes only a single good idea and the courage to pursue it to change history. In fulfilling this simple promise, these visionaries play a critical role in sparking new industries, expanding our economy, and generating new job growth across our country.”
Celebrating National Entrepreneurship Month
Everyone loves a good “Black Friday” sale, but do you know that the Saturday after Thanksgiving is also a great day for holiday shopping? Known as “Small Business Saturday, it is an opportunity to celebrate National Entrepreneurship Month and support small businesses in your community during the holiday season. Of course, we also encourage you to shop local and support MBEs all year long!
Why is it Important
In a 2022 article titled, “7 Reasons To Shop Local And Support Small Businesses,” Forbes reported that, “Small businesses continue to be the bread and butter of our economy. And although local small businesses are considered the underdogs next to big box conglomerates, global banks and large supply chains, the pros of supporting locally run businesses pack quite a punch,” stimulating the local economy, nurturing innovation and growth, and supporting the American dream.
According to Forbes, “The American dream is the theory in which equality of opportunity should be made available to any American, allowing them to achieve their highest individual aspirations and goals. Small-business owners not only believe in this dream but have actively pursued it. By supporting small businesses and shopping small, you’re supporting real, genuine people who have put their passion ahead of convenience and whole-heartedly believe in the business they are running.”
